Isle of Jura Turas Mara Island Single Malt 1 l

The Jura Distillery released this excellent Isle of Jura Turas-Mara in 2014 to complete their comprehensive product range.

It is an island whisky from the Isle of Jura, which is part of the Inner Hebrides in the south-west of Scotland. For those who like fruity malts, this will be the highest gratification.

The smell is a composition of black fruits like blueberries, black currants, cherries and grapes that mix together with a little vanilla, some honey and caramel. On the palate a voluminous, complex and powerful taste unfurls. Again the wide choice of lush black forest fruits can be descried.

It is a fantastic fruit cocktail that is accompanies by a very charming oak flavour. The finish lasts long with a smooth and mellow fruitiness.

The Isle of Jura Turas-Mara is by far the fruitiest single malt Scotch of the Jura Distillery’s product range. The reason for its sublime aromas is the method of maturing.

It had the chance to age in three different casks and thus to absorb very different flavours. First of all, it was filled in ex-bourbon casks, which are made of American white oak.

Then it aged in French Bordeaux casks and finally finished in Spanish Ruby port casks. Especially the latter two types of barrels had a great impact on the spirit and are responsible for the fruity character.

The name Turas-Mara is Gaelic and means long journey. It refers to the 19th century, when it was much more difficult for the Diurachs, as the residents of Jura are called in Gaelic, to make a living.

Many of them felt hopeless and were without prospects, so that the only chance to improve their situation was the long journey to the new world.

This whisky is devoted to those families who left the Isle of Jura. The Jura Distillery created this malt to capture the quintessence of the island in a bottle and bring a piece of home to the brave emigrants and their descendants.
