Glen Moray 12 Years Old Speyside Single Malt 0,7 l

The Glen Moray 12 Year Old is a fantastic Speyside whisky with a mid-golden sheen and a full and complex character. The clear water of the River Lossie is turned into a delectable single malt Scotch that shows aromas of fruits, vanilla, caramel, cereals and a little honey. It almost seems to have a sherry aroma as well.

On the palate a spicy oak flavour is balanced by a lush fruitiness and sweet nuances of honey. The body seems a bit stormy. Towards the end the dram is becoming drier. The finish is dominated by oaky influences. Little by little the vanilla and the sweet honey are fading.

At Glen Morays the whiskies are usually matured in ex-bourbon casks. Those casks are made of American white oak and were used for the production of bourbon before. Usually they create a sweet vanilla and toffee flavour. Furthermore, the Glen Moray Distillery is renowned for a gentle nuance of honey that is to be found in almost all their products.

The Glen Moray Distillery produced the first spirit in 1897 but most of its facilities were built about seven decades earlier. In 1828 Robert Thorne & Sons established the West Brewery, which became the basis for the distillery many years later. It was the Glen Moray Glenlivet Distillery Company that converted the old brewery into a distillery. Since 2004 a new visitors centre is welcoming whisky friends, which can also have a look around in the distillery.

Fresh water is just one ingredient of a fine single malt Scotch. Another is the processed malt, which comes from Paul’s Maltings in Buckie and Simpson’s & Co in Berwick. Together with the traditional process of whisky distillation and the maturation in ex-bourbon casks, the Glen Moray Distillery is producing excellent single malts like the Glen Moray 12 Year Old.
