Colombia on the Caribbean coast is home to the exquisite Dictador Solera Rum 12 year old. The tradition filled Colombian distillery Destileria Colombiana in Cartagena de Indias has existed since 1913 and has over 100 years of experience and is responsible for the production of the exquisite Dictador Rums.

The history of the Dictador Solera Rum dates back to 1751 in which an ancestor of the founder traveled to Colombia and traded between the former colony and Spain. His convincing and motivating vein earned him the name "Dictador". This acts today as namesake for this excellent Rum. After the distillery managed to convince a European logistics company of their products they invested large sums of money in new equipment and procedures that guaranteed the Destileria Colombiana unsurpassable revenues.

For the production of the well-balanced Dictador Solera Rum 12 year old a continuous distillation process was chosen in a stainless steel distillation apparatus. As a basis for the fermentation process molasses – a dark, thick sticky by-product of sugar production, and fresh sugarcane juice (Virgin Cane Honey) is used. Fermentation is 30% in Pot Still plant and 70% in Column-Still plant.

In the subsequent storage process the Rum is aged for 12 years in the solera method, stacked in cascading Xerex oak casks which were previously used to age sherry. Over time some Rum is bottled from the top to the bottom barrels. Thus the oldest and most characterful Rum is in the lower barrels, while the top row is continuously refilled with new and young Rum. The flavorful Rum is diluted to bottling strength drop by drop with demineralized water over a period of 28 days.
