In 1919 the Norwegian born Jens Reidar Larsen planned his trip to America with a stopover in France. However France was the end of the 24-year-olds adventure and he never made it to America. A few years later in 1926 Larson purchased a Cognac company from Joseph Gautier and then founded his own company called "Le Cognac of the Vikings" SA. Larsen also married a girl from Cognac which firmly set his roots in France and went on to produce two children who also joined the family business. Larson quickly deepened his knowledge into its ingredients and preparation. The distillery is only slightly north of Bordeaux, in Cognac, France and is well known for fine eaux-de-vie (the spirits official full name) and is one of the more recent distilleries of its kind. Their superior products made a substantial impact in the international Cognac market and has secured a substantial proportion of the market.

Since the beginning the unique Larsen Cognac is known for its fruity and fresh aromas. This is ensured by a special distillation process which go through the wines quickly and without sediments. It produces the finest Cognacs in a zone of 34703 hectares, of which 17% is dedicated to production of Cognac) are used.
