The Caribbean has not only got paradisiacal beaches, breathtaking nature and beautiful holiday regions to offer, but also world famous excellent Rum comes from this area. One particular popular product range is made by the family-owned company Bacardi. The company has a proud 150-year old history.
In 1862 the Spaniard Don Facundo Bacardi founded the family business in Santiago de Cuba. Bacardi then produced unique Rums with an incredibly popular taste based on the principle of "parallel process".
Don Facundo also experimented with new filtration processes such as filtration through charcoal to result in particularly pure and mellow distillates. He also set the standard for aged Rum in the world when he discovered that aging Rum in American white oak barrels produced the best results.
Bacardi’s bat logo was inspired by bats living in the distillery. Bats were thought to be an omen of good luck and fortune by Don Facundo and his wife and the logo has been an important element in making this brand successful. Shortly after the coming to power of Castro the family was forced to leave the country and immigrated to the United States.
It took a few years for the organization and structure of Bacardi to stand upright again and for the Rum production to be continued. But when that day began nothing could stand in Bacardi's way.
