The Glen Moray 16 Year Old is a single malt Scotch from the Speyside with a warm, smooth, sweet character
16 years are quite a long time for a whisky to mature and to build its own character. And it was definitely long enough for the Glen Moray 16 Year Old to form a unique character with delectable flavours.
On the nose this Speyside whisky is presenting itself smooth and warm. Aromas of sweet raisins, malt, vanilla, apple peels and a bit chocolate mix with spicy nuances and a hint of leather. The body shows the same smooth, warm and oily character while the palate is ensnared by sweet caramel, toffee, malted barley, apples, and nuances of mint. Furthermore, slightly nutty hints and a small dose of tannins are part of the whole as well. The finish has medium length and is, as the entire character of this single malt, sweet, creamy and warming. Interestingly, is leaves an impression of liquorice.
The Glen Moray 16 Year Old is a great Single Malt Scotch Whisky from the Speyside region. More precisely the Glen Moray Distillery is located in the small city of Elgin. With the clear water of the River Lossie and malt form Paul’s Maltings in Buckie and Simpson’s & Co in Berwick, the company is producing high quality whiskies by using local resources. Just the casks that were used for the maturation had a longer journey. The Glen Moray 16 Year Old aged in ex-bourbon casks, which are made of American white oak, and ex-sherry casks, which are made of European oak. Both types are giving their very own notes to the spirit and together they create a unique character.
Some Glen Moray Distillery’s building date back to the year 1828. In those early years, the facilities were used as a brewery, which was called the West Brewery. Not until 1897 the brewery was converted into a distillery and ever since it is producing whisky.
