The Ileach Cask Strength is a powerful Islay whisky with unknown origin
Here comes a whole lot of smoke condensed into a bottle of Islay whisky. The Ileach Cask Strength is not just powerful because of its alcohol content but also because of its smoky character.
On the nose the smoky peat is the dominating aroma. Just little by little it gives space to a phenol aroma, a hint of sweetness and some aniseed.
On the palate a powerful spiciness and a delicious sweetness intermix with the heavy smoke. Nuances of cloves, nutmeg and citrus struggle their way through after a while.
The finish is lasting long and appears smoky and dry. Overall this Scotch whisky is a smoke bomb and has the appreciable power of 58 % alcohol.
So far it is unknown which distillery produced the Ileach Cask Strength. The dram is marketed by the Highlands & Islands Scotch Whisky Company Ltd., which bought it from one of the eight distilleries on the Isle of Islay. Maybe you should give it a try and make your own guess about the real origin.
However, it is certainly an Islay whisky. This fact is underlined by the name Ileach, as it is also the designation for the residents of that little island. Furthermore, its smoky character is very typical of single malt whiskies from Islay.
The high quality of the Ileach Cask Strength was acknowledged by Jim Murrays Whisky Bible with very impressive 97 points. In addition, it was awarded the following medal:
- International Wine & Spirit Competition 1999 Gold
