The Bowmore 17 Year Old White Sands is a Single Malt Scotch from Islay and an homage to the beautiful beaches of its home island
This single malt Scotch spent 17 long years on the isle of Islay, before it was shipped across the oceans to please whisky enthusiasts around the world.
The little island has to offer a beautiful landscape like for example seven miles of untouched white beaches. This part of Islay’s nature became the inspiration for the Bowmore 17 Year Old White Sands.
The whisky releases a mellow, smoky peat aroma, vanilla, sweet treacle toffee and exotic fruits like pineapple. On the palate the flavours of creamy toffee, vanilla, dried fruits, a malty sweetness and an excellent portion of smoke construct an interesting dram. To the end it fades out smoothly and surprises with a spicy pepper note as completion.
The Bowmore Distillery is located on Islay, which is also known as the queen of the Hebrides. Even though the island is quite small, it is home to eight distilleries. Bowmore is one of them.
It is named after the small village, where it settled down in 1779. With more than 230 years of history, the distillery is one of the oldest whisky producers in Scotland.
This long tradition and experience is reflected in the company’s malts. One part of the production, where the old tradition can directly be observed, is the process of germination on the own malting floors.
Just few distilleries are still operating their own floors today but for Bowmore this is an important part of the whole manufacturing chain. Thus, the company has the full control over the quality the basic ingredient.
The Bowmore 17 Year Old White Sands is produced after the high quality standards that are typical for Bowmore whiskies. After the distillation, the new make matured in ex-bourbon casks, which are made of American white oak.
This type of casks is renowned for giving aromas of vanilla and treacle to the whisky. The flavour of this dram is definitely convincing and was therefore successful in the following competition:
- International Spirits Challenge 2014
- International Wine & Spirit Competition 2014
Gold in the category Scotch Whisky - Single Malt - Islay - 16-18 YO
