The AnCnoc Peter Arkle is a limited special edition of a modern Highland single malt whisky
In 2012 the Knockdhu Distillery started a series of a special edition, the Peter Arkle series. Peter Arkle is an illustrator, who was born in Scotland and lives in New York today.
Normally his drawings can be found in newspapers, books, advertisements and so on. But now they are decorating the packaging of this whisky collection as well.
The AnCnoc Peter Arkle is a non-chill filtered Highland whisky that comes with its natural colour. On the nose it shows sweet aromas of sherry, vanilla, caramel and honey as well as fruity peaches, green apples, oranges, a bit leather and chocolate.
On the palate this single malt is constructed of vanilla, caramel, honey, coconut and spices. Additionally, notes of citrus and pears arise. To the end the malt stays smooth and sweet with hints of toffee and spices. The finish has a good medium length.
The Knockdhu Distillery was founded by John Morrison after he had bought a piece of land that has been seeming promising to him. He purchased the Knock estate because it was full of peat, barley grew everywhere and the Great North Railway was not far away.
Just the right source of water needed to be discovered. Morrison found several sources, sampled them, sent them for analysis and chose the best one. The Knockdhu Distillery opened in 1894. When the business started, it had the reputation of being a modern company.
This reputation is still up to date, even though the old manufacturing methods are still applied. The difference to other distilleries is that these old methods are used to create modern styles of whiskies.
Peter Arkle was convinced by the Knockdhu Distillerys whiskies, their modern style, their history and flavours. Thus, he tried to express the character that he saw in each of the AnCnoc Peter Arkle Edition in a drawing, which was used for the particular packaging.
