The first impression of the vibrant Glen Scotia double cask single malt Whisky is a perfectly balanced relationship of strong sugary ingredients paired with fresh fruit; a delight which you should not miss.
Upon tasting, the Glen Scotia double cask single malt Whisky from Scotland offers a full-bodied sweetness and a wonderfully spicy dry character, a trademark of the distillery. A silky-soft tone of mint comes to the fore and slightly loosens a bit of a creamy mouth feel.
The finish of the remarkable Glen Scotia double cask single malt Whisky is dark and deep without bitterness to the fore.
The Glen Scotia single was named double cask due to the maturity phase in two different types of cask malt Whisky. The spirit initially rests for many years in first fill American oak barrels and from this receives its very pleasant, sweet character. The spirit is then transferred into Pedro Ximénez sherry casks to expand the multi-faceted characteristics.
The well-balanced Glen Scotia de calm was established in 1832 and is today one of the last distilleries within the former stronghold of the Whisky Campbeltown. Campbeltown was known as “The Whisky Capital of the World”. Since its inception the distillery unfortunately had to be closed several times as many Whisky producers moved, and this failed cooperation led to extremely high costs. So it was only occasionally in the 1980s where the single malt was distilled and bottled.
Fortunately for lovers of this perfection, the refurbishment of the Glen Scotia Distillery by the Loch Lomond Group took place and resumed the production of Whisky and managed to remain open for more than 15 years and also quite competently recreated the magic of a bygone era.
The superbly rounded Glen Scotia double cask single malt Whisky is very current and won a gold medal at the 2016 World Whisky Awards and also won the Best Campbeltown Single Malt Award in 2016 at the World Whisky Awards.
Conclusion of the Glen Scotia double cask Whisky:
The smooth Glen Scotia double cask single malt is a completely successful Whisky which ostensibly will delight friends with sweet tastes. A perfect bridge between sweet notes and a dark character resulting from storage in two different types of barrels.
