Santa Teresa is a family business that can be proud of a more than 200-year history. In 1796 the Count of Tovar y Blanco was given land by the King of Spain and here he built the Santa Teresa Hacienda. About 100 years later the new owner of the property Gustav Vollmer Ribas began to produce Rum and the Santa Teresa 1796 Rum was created in 2006 to celebrate the 200th year anniversary of the hacienda.
The Santa Teresa 1796 Rum is made from the finest sugar cane which grows in the Aragua Valley in Venezuela and is subjected to repeatedly strict quality control. After fermentation two different systems are used and each produce unique distillates for the distillation process. Then not just young and old distillates are blended with each other because the focus of Santa Teresa was always to find the perfect balance. The storage of the Rum takes place under meticulous conditions to ensure only the best quality.
In the Solera method – an innovative fractional system of blending new and old Rums - four levels of carefully selected oak barrels are stacked, with the youngest Rum in the top barrels and the oldest Rum in the bottom barrels. The very special barrels are made from Limousin oak. The Santa Teresa 1796 Rum gets its last finished flavor and its fine character and its deep golden hue from the barrel.
The easy to sip Santa Teresa 1796 Rum is presented in a lovely classic style bottle with an easy to remove wax seal covering the cork closure. Ideally consumed neat, on ice or in a citrusy cocktail and deserves a spot on any Rum collector’s shelf.
The rich and powerful Santa Teresa 1796 Rum has won many international awards over the years. In 2000 and 2001 the Rum won the gold medal at the Rum Festival Caribbean Week respectively.
