The bouquet of the Abuelo 7 Year old Rum exudes sensual and warm aromas of vanilla, caramel, tropical fruit and flowers. Panama Rum is known for its rich content of sugarcane juice and molasses for irresistible sweetness, but not overly sweet and is masterfully balanced. The sugarcane is 100% estate grown and harvested by hand by locals.
Fresh, soft flavors and silky textures delight the palate. Caramel and toffee forms the beginning, followed by notes of vanilla and floral flavors that mingle with sweet apples. Spices such as cinnamon and cloves add to the delight. The long finish notes of tobacco and leather make the Abuelo 7 Year old Rum seem drier than was expected at the beginning. The perfect balance of all these flavors are evidence of a quality first-class rum with great debth that knows no boundries or limits.

The Ron Abuelo 7 Year is a 7 year matured Rum from the region between North and South America, called Panama. This Rum is a proud piece of the Abuelo series that mature in the Varela distillery. Panama is famous for its high yield of qualitative sugarcane. This is why the Varela Hermanos decided to build the Varela distillery right there in the fertile valley in the centre of Panama in 1936. From the very beginning 100% Panamanian Estate grown virgin sugarcane honey was perpared, fermented and distilled and then exclusively used to produce the extraordinary quality Abuelo 7 Year old Rum.
Panama has different climatic condition therefore the distiller may use the cane differently in different seasons. During the dry season from December to April freshly squeezed sugarcane juice is processed further. During the remaining months Varela uses a mix of freshly squeezed sugarcane juice and molasses for the production of the Abuelo 7 Year old Rum.
After distillation, the Abuelo 7 Year old Rum is stored for the maturation process. Bourbon barrels of American white oak is used for the Solera method. This phase of seven years gives the Ron Abuelo 7 Year old Rum a superior strength and ensures complete enjoyment. After storing,the Rums are blended together and bottled.
The Abuelo 7 Year old Rum has won several international awards.
