Since 1918 the Whisky maker Togouchi on the island of Honshu in Japan has had his own distillery named the Chugoku Jozo distillery. Liqueurs, Sake and brandies were formerly produced here ostensibly and since 1990 has been producing premium Whisky to suit the Japanese palate. 

It is worth noting that Togouchi does not produced its own Whisky spirit. Rather, Togouchi buys and imports premium malt Whiskies from Scotland and grain Whiskies from Canada and then matures the spirit in ex bourbon casks. Pure water from the unspoiled Sandankyo National Park is blended to the spirit to perfection.

With the help of world famous Japanese cover art, the Japanese help these distillates to absolute top quality. The new blend spirits are stored in barrels in a decommissioned 361 meter long tunnel called the Togouchi tunnel which was originally constructed for a railway in the 1970’s but was never used. Here a year-round temperature of 15 degrees Celsius and 80% humidity is guaranteed.
