In 2015 a new expression entered the Tomatin Distillery’s core range. It was the Tomatin Cask Strength Whisky, which is an absolute pure Highland single malt. It has no additional colouring, it is non-chill filtered and it is bottled with its full alcohol strength. A natural dark mahogany hue leaves a great first impression, which pursued on the nose as well. Aromas of caramel, sherry, walnuts and pears form a delicious bouquet. After the first surge ebbs away, sweeter notes raise and nuances of oranges and slightly spicy ginger biscuits appear. On the palate a sweet and spicy composition of oranges, citrus, green apples, caramel, malt, marzipan, ginger, very little oak and even a touch of liquorice give a sublime mouth-feel. During the finish, the malt develops a mild spiciness while vanilla and sweet toffee are still detectable.

The Tomatin Cask Strength is a delectable Highland whisky and the first cask strength expression to be included in Tomatin's core range. It received its great character and the natural dark colour mainly from its maturation. One part of the spirit had the chance to age in American ex-bourbon casks and the other part in Spanish Oloroso casks before both were married. Especially the Oloroso seasoned barrels are accountable for the nice mahogany sheen. This Tomatin creation entered the market in 2015 and is hopefully continued for many further batches.

The Tomatin Distillery was officially founded in 1897 but it is suspected that the whisky production reaches back to the 15th century. Howsoever, in the end of the 19th century John MacLeish, Alexander Allan and John MacDougall turned the illegal production into a licensed distillery. They chose this spot not just because of its long whisky history but also for its practical location. It is close to the Alt na Frith Creek, which supplies clear water, and was linked to the newly built railway. Furthermore, its position of about 1000 feet above sea level has a great impact on the maturation process. The warehouses experience climatic changes during the seasons and therefore the whisky is breathing.
