Glenrothes Select Reserve Single Malt 0,7 l

John Ramsay, the Malt Master at the Glenrothes Distillery, has created various delicious whiskies over the years. The Glenrothes Select Reserve is one of his creations and typifies the distillery house character.

This Speyside whisky has a beautiful and natural golden colour and comes in an elegant bulgy bottle. On the nose this malt offers a sweet adventure that is full of vanilla, coconut, American oak and ripe fruits like plums and raspberries.

On the palate a well-balanced harmony is to be found, which is put together of delectable malt, a pleasant sweetness, vanilla and zesty oranges as well as tangerines. There are no sharp edges but just a round, voluminous and smooth character. The finish is long, a bit dry and slightly spicy.

The Glenrothes Select Reserve is basically made of three ingredients. Firstly the company uses barley that is grown in Scotland and malted locally.

Secondly the water comes from natural spring at the Brauchchill and the Ardcanny, which are little hills not far from the production plant. And the final ingredient is the yeast.

After the distillation comes the maturation process, which turns the spirit into whisky. The Glenrothes Select Reserve spent this process in American ex-bourbon casks and European ex-sherry casks.

The Glenrothes Distillery was built in 1878 and started the production of whisky one year later in 1879. It was established by James Stuart & Co and is part of the Edrington Group today.

Beside the creation of single malts, the company is also making whisky for blends like The Famous Grouse and Cutty Sark.
