A great single malt that comes not from Scotland or Ireland but from India. The Amrut Cask Strength is a powerful Asian whisky that is shining in a bright golden yellow. Its smell is constructed of biscuits, toffee, caramel, coffee and herbal notes. It interfuses with flavoursome barley and bourbon notes, which are characteristic of Amrut malts to a certain extent. The body is full and voluminous and reveals the power of 61.8 % alcohol. Its taste convinces with flavours of citrus, zesty blood orange, mellow toffee, malt, sweet biscuit and a slightly tarry expression. The finish of the Amrut Cask Strength is long and shows bourbon as well as oak aromas in the foreground. Further in the back, hints of dark sugar, apricot and cocoa are to be found.

The Amrut Cask Strength is a delectable Indian single malt that was awarded 93.5 points by Jim Murray. It has its origin in Bangalore, which is the capital of the federal state Karnataka. Even though Bangalore is located in the southern region of India, the barley, which is used for the production, comes from the north. It grew at the foot of the Himalayas and absorbed the fresh water that flowed through the mountains down to the fertile lowland. The premium ingredients are processed to a spirit that is filled into oak cask in the next step. There it loses just the angel’s share before it is bottled at cask strength.

The Amrut Distillery was founded by Shri J.N. Radhakrishna in 1948. This was an important time for India as the British parliament decided to decolonize the country one year prior to this. The distillery evolved fast and today it constitutes an international player that offers different spirits beside whisky like rum, vodka, gin and brandy. Nevertheless,Amrut’s whisky range is very well equipped with five core products and ten further special editions.
