Oban Little Bay Small Cask Single Malt Whisky 1l

Oban is a town situated directly at the sea of the west coast of Scotland. Houses settled along a scenic bay and somewhere in between the Oban Distillery can be found. It is the creator of the fine Single Malt Scotch Oban Little Bay. This Highland whisky was launched in 2014 and is produced in small batches.

On the nose the dram makes a rich and full impression by offering aromas of caramel, dried apples, honey, plums, oak and allspice. On the palate the complex composition consists of dried fruits, apple, malted barley, orange peel, cloves, a little chocolate and oak. The length of the finish is about medium. It is becoming drier and slightly acidic.

The Oban Little Bay was aged in the smallest casks that are used at the Oban Distillery. Therefore, the whisky had an intense maturation time. Due to the size and form of the barrels, the spirit has more contact with the wood. Thus, the exchange of flavours and colours is benefited and the whisky is developing a more intense character.

In the second half of the 18th century the brothers Hugh and John Stevenson found different ways to make a living. One was to run a brewery, which they turned into a distillery in the 1790s. In 1794 the spirit production started and interestingly the town called Oban began to grow around the distillery. The name Oban is a Scottish Gaelic expression and means “The Little Bay”. It is an allusion to location of the town and distillery.

The Oban Distillery is producing a 14 year old whisky that is part of the Classic Malts Selection and represents the West Highlands. Originally this collection consisted of six single malts from different regions. Later seven other whiskies were added but Oban was one of the very first. The selection is illustrating the special whisky characters of each Scottish region.
