Glenfarclas 15 years Single Highland Malt 0,7 l

From a town called Ballindalloch comes this delicious single malt. The Glenfarclas 15 Year Old is a fantastic non chill-filtered Speyside whisky that is mainly influenced by sherry flavours. On the nose it is full of intense and powerful sherry notes that mix with oak, a little butterscotch and dried fruits. The body has quite a lot of power as well and it shows a fantastic complexity.

The taste comes up with a great balance of sherry, a slight sweetness, malty notes, some oak from the casks, orange peels, nuts and a nuance of raisins. The power that starts off on the palate turns into a pleasantly smooth sensation that fills the whole mouth. Therefore, the finish smooth as well. The flavours of sweet sherry, nuts and a very little hint of smoke have a long lasting effect.

Special about the Glenfarclas Distillery is the fact that it is using exclusively sherry casks for the maturation of its whiskies. Those casks have contained Oloroso or Fino sherry and therefore preserved the special sherry aromas. Glenfarclas’ whiskies mature for a minimum of eight years. The Glenfarclas 15 Year Old was let alone for seven additionally years. Thus, it had a lot of time to give undesired flavours to the wood and absorb the delicious sherry character.

The Glenfarclas Distillery is run by J & G Grant. The Grant family took over the business in 1865, when John Grant bought the Rechlerich Farm. Back then the distillery existed already for a few decades on this estate. It was first licensed in 1836. Today the company is still owned and run by the Grant family. George S. Grant, the company’s Brand Ambassador, is already the sixth generation.

All the effort and hard work of the Grant family was honoured by the Whisky Magazine, as it named the company the distiller of the year 2006.
