Finlaggan Original Peaty Cask Strength Islay Single Malt 0,7 l

This is a Scotch whisky from the Isle of Islay that might be of high interest for the smoke loving whisky enthusiasts. As it is very common for the spirits that originate from this little island, the Finlaggan Cask Strength comes up with a big portion of smoke as well.

Its smell is already very intensive and peaty. It appears a fine note of phenol, a pleasant spiciness, a salty sea breeze and further in the background a slight fruitiness.

The taste is also quite intensive and shows a similarly strong, smoky peat aroma. Along with a powerful spiciness comes a hint of slightly sweet barley and a dash of citrus.

The finish is warm, still spicy and long lasting. Overall this is a great smoky Scotch whisky.

The Finlaggan Cask Strength stems from the Isle of Islay. However, it is not certainly known which distillery is producing it.

Altogether there are eight whisky producing companies on that island today. The Vintage Malt Whisky Company Ltd., which is the bottler of the Finlaggan whiskies, is keeping the origin of the Finlaggan Casks Strength top secret.

Furthermore, this company is holding the whisky brands Tantallan, Glenalmond and Cooper’s Choice.

The name of the Finlaggan whisky derives from an old castle on the Isle of Islay.

The Finlaggan Castle was built in the 13th century. Over the years it gave home to Scottish Kings and rulers but today there is not much left of the former castle. Just a few fragments of the walls are to be found.

The Finlaggan Cask Strength was, as the name suggests, bottled at cask strength, which was at 58 %.

Afore this single malt Scotch matured in ex-bourbon casks, in which the spirit and the wood exchanged those flavours that make this dram such a good one. Its great character was already awarded in 2014:
