The story of the award-winning Dalmore distillery and the list of former owners is almost endlessly long. But the fact is that we should thank Mr Alexander Matheson who founded this excellent Distillery in 1839 in the Highland region of Scotland. Matheson set up the distillery in Alness, on the banks of the Cromarty Firth which faces the Black Isle with the aim of renting out the premises rather than running it himself.

The name Dalmore is based on a legend dating back to 1263 when the chief of the clan Mackenzie saved King Alexander III from a charging stag. The Mackenzie 12 point Royal stag emblem is still displayed on all bottles of Dalmore.
