Islay

Details:

  • Single Malt Islay Whisky
  • Scotch Whisky

Made of Scottish natural barley, colouring free and non-chill filtered the Bruichladdich Organic Scottish Barley is a very natural single malt whisky.

Its fresh bouquet offers lots of fruity aromas like apple, pear, lemon peel, apricot and pineapple. Furthermore, sweet barley, some honey and vanilla from the charred oak casks add more complexity.

On the palate a fruity and spicy taste form a diversified character with a particular vitality. On one hand the bourbon casks left flavours of vanilla, honey, oak, nuts and a certain spiciness.

On the other hand appears a typical, almost exotic Bruichladdich taste of raspberries, strawberries, pears, lemons and zesty orange peels.

The fresh character lingers on during the finish. Especially long lasting nuances of vanilla and sweet fruits round off the whole impression.

The Bruichladdich Organic Scottish Barley is a Scotch whisky from the Isle of Islay, where it was made of well-selected ingredients. The distillery teamed up with the farmers Sir William Roberts of Mains of Tullibardine, William Rose at Mid Coull and Neil Scobie at Coulmore.

Thus, the supply of natural barley and therefore one part of the final product’s quality is ensured. The single malt matured in first fill and refill bourbon casks. Its overall fruity, sweet character is almost atypical for Islay whiskies, however, it shows some of Bruichladdich’s distinctive attributes.

The Isle of Islay is part of the Inner Hebrides and also called “The Queen of the Hebrides”. It is truly a whisky island as it is home to eight active distilleries.

Since 1881, the Bruichladdich Distillery is one of them. Robert, William and John Harvey indeed were quite young when they founded the company, however, their family had been in the whisky business for a long time already.

Together those three did not even reach an age of 90 years but had access to more than a century of experience in distillation.
