The creator of the Nikka Taketsuru 12 year old Whisky is Masataka Taketsuru who hails from a family of sake brewers dating back to 1733. Taketsuru being the enterprising young man that he was took the opportunity to study the art of Whisky making and chemistry at the University of Glasgow in Scotland. Taketsuru took his newly acquired trade back to Japan and secured employment where he had the opportunity to produce the first Japanese Whisky as a master blender. Taketsuru together with his Scottish wife went on and built their own distillery in Yoichi in 1934 and dedicated his life to introducing his countrymen to flavorful authentic Whisky.

The well balanced Nikka Taketsuru 12 year old Whisky is a product of two distilleries, namely the Miyagikyo and the Yoichi.  The Miyagikyo is a noble and soft single malt Whisky, and the Yoichi is a characteristic single malt. This way Nikka Taketsuru developed a 12 year old Whisky which combines the sweet and malty notes.
