An absolutely classic Tennessee Whiskey and probably the most popular of its kind. The Jack Daniel’s is an old veteran of the American Whiskey world and is produced legally since 1866. It is also known as Black Label because of the very characteristic label on the bottle. The aromas of very little smoke, vanilla and sweet caramel enrapture the nose. On the palate the mellow smokiness can be found again. It is accompanied by smooth notes of oak and a delectable taste of vanilla. To the end the Jack Daniel’s stays sweet and slightly smoky.

The Jack Daniel’s is produced by using sour mash. In general the mash that is manufactured consists of 80 % maize, 12 % rye and 8 % barley. To each new fermentation process a certain part of sour mash, the mash from a previous fermentation process, is added. Thereby lactobacilli are brought in, which favour the fermentation. After distillation, the Jack Daniel Distillery is applying the Lincoln County Process. This method is used to filter the new make and make its taste smoother. Therefor the Whiskey trickles through a three meter thick layer of charcoal. The charcoal is made from sugar maple and withdraws undesired flavours and adds other aromas. Finally, the Whiskey matured in toasted oak cask, which are made of American white oak.

The Jack Daniel’s is a nice sipping Whiskey but serves also very well as a mixer. Try the ice-cold Lynchburg Lemonade that is mixed of triple sec, lime juice, lemonade and of course Jack Daniel’s. A tale says that the Lynchburg Lemonade was served in the county of Moore, where the sale of alcohol was prohibited, officially as a refreshing soft drink. Thus, the lemonade became a disguise for an excellent cocktail and gained easily fame. Even though it might be a tall tale, this creation needs to be tested anyway.
