Bushmills Original Irish Whiskey 1 l

The Bushmills Distillery is one of the few Irish distilleries that is still producing whiskey on a grand scale. It is part of the Irish whiskey history for quite a long time already. The Bushmills Original, as the name is pointing out as well, is the staple of the company and is produced by applying the traditional methods. On the nose it offers a very smooth sensation that is built of the aromas of fruits, soft vanilla, a little spicy oak, a whiff of blossoms and a malty sweetness. On the palate the malty sweet flavour is coming through as well and is accompanied by toffee, vanilla, a bit oak and even a hint of honey. The finish is mellow and of medium length. It appears fresh, dry and with a little spiciness.

The Bushmills Original is a classic Irish whiskey produced at the Bushmills Distillery. It consists on one hand of Irish grain whiskey and on the other hand of a triple distilled single malt whiskey. Typically, the Irish grain whiskey is a little smoother and has a softer character. Whereas the malt whiskey comes up with stronger, more intensive notes, especially when it matured in sherry casks. Furthermore, the triple distillation is leading to a much more pure alcohol. Many whiskey companies just do two turns of distillation but not so the Bushmills Distillery. By means of the third run, fusel oils can be extracted. In general they are not bad but can carry undesired flavours. Thus, the triple distillation makes the whiskey a little smoother.

The Bushmills Distillery is somehow embodying the great tradition of whiskey production in Ireland. Officially it is doing so since 1784 but it is known that there has been production before. In the end, the actual beginning can be told.
