This Tennessee Whiskey is the refinement of the Jack Daniel’s Black Label. The Jack Daniel’s Gentleman Jack is the smoother and mellower sibling of Jack Daniel’s core product and differs mainly in the method of filtration and thus in its character. Its smell shows nuances of the American white oak, has a sweet, almost fruity aroma and offers honey and caramel. The body is very soft and oily. On the palate the aromas of sweet vanilla toffee, maize and a little spiciness are to be found. Some say it tastes like a bite into a grilled and buttered maize cob. The finish is rather short, has still a mellow sweetness and a tiny note of oak.

The secret of its very soft character is the way of filtration. Normally the Jack Daniel Distillery is using the so called charcoal mellowing – also known as Lincoln County Process – before the Whiskey is filled in casks. Therefor the new make trickles drop by drop through a three meter thick layer of sugar maple charcoal. Indeed, the same happens with the Jack Daniel’s Gentleman Jack but the essential difference in production takes place after the maturing process. This Tennessee Whiskey is filtered again. So it has to make it again through the thick layer of charcoal. The double filtration is responsible for a very soft and mellow character because the undesired flavours are extracted and the desired aromas are added.

Just as a gentleman should do, this Jack Daniel’s Gentleman Jack impresses with its appearance and its gentle character. It is perfect to be sipped pure or on the rocks. On the other hand its mellow smokiness and the dulcet sweetness are an excellent base for a cocktail.
