  • Island Scotch

The Laphroaig Scotch distillery was founded in 1815 on the Hebridean island of Islay, Scotland, by the brothers Donald and Alex Johnston and has since then produced sought-after high-quality typical Island whisky creations.

The ancient and spectacular buildings of the distillery are located under Scottish heritage and the Laphroaig distillery is a popular destination for tourists.

After many changes of owners over its lifespan, Laphroaig is currently in the possession of the American Japanese Beam Suntory group.

Laphroaig is famous for its smoky Scotch variants, as also the Laphroaig triple wood single malt whisky once again proves.

The aroma of the Laphroaig triple wood single malt whisky is defined by the strong smoke from peat, coupled with medicinal sounds and a delicate hint of vanilla beans. In addition, the tannins of the European oak show up, combined with a very strong, intense and full-bodied fragrance.

Once in the mouth the nobel Laphroaig triple wood single malt whisky presents itself with very fruity nuances and the taste of sherry. These facets are generally rather unusual for a Laphroaig and especially for an island-Scotch, but fit perfectly in the attractive blend of smoke and vanilla, which make the whisky shine with fullness.

The sherry cask is reflected in the finish. The single malt was rested here among others and was refined through the rich peat smoke. Overall a very pleasing long finish with lots of barrel character.

As the name of Laphroaig triple wood single malt whisky suggests, this intense Scotch is matured in three different barrels. In addition to the popular ex-Bourbon casks, as well as the aforementioned European oak barrels, the Laphroaig distillery uses a quarter cask barrel, which gives the whisky its special touch. The spirit is non-chilled filtered which adds depth, texture and taste.

This whisky has secured numerous international awards. A gold medal in 2013 from the Beverage Tasting Institute, a gold medal in 2013 at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, a silver medal in 2013 at the International Spirits Challenge, and a silver medal in 2013 at the International Wine & Spirits Competition. Very impressive indeed!

Conclusion of the Laphroaig triple wood single malt whisky:

The extraordinary Laphroaig triple wood single malt whisky presents itself with a neat touch of peat smoke and medicinal aspects. The mild vanilla in this whisky offers an attractive sweetness and the fruity facets of the sherry cask adds special depth. A total of three different cask types provide plenty of character and determine the value of this exquisite masterpiece.

Of course, we recommend the pure pleasure of this Laphroaig triple wood single malt whisky.
