The Glenrothes Distillery in located in a small Speyside town that is called Rothes. There it is producing premium whiskies since 1879.

A certain amount of Glenrothes’ whisky is used to create well-known blended Scotches like The Famous Grouse and Cutty Sark. But the great quality of the own single malts is not to be underestimated as well as the Glenrothes Robur Reserve demonstrates.

This Speyside whisky comes with a natural, deep golden colour. On the nose thick and voluminous notes of sherry appear quite dominant.

The sweet Oloroso left quite typical aromas of ripe, dark fruits, berries, spices and almonds. On the palate the slightly acerbic oak of the Spanish sherry casks stays in the foreground while the flavours of sweet prunes, nutmeg and a little clove make the character complete and well-balanced.

The body is nicely smooth, thick and oily. To the end a mellow oak aroma lingers on and is accompanied by dried fruits and a pleasant sweetness.

Quercus Robur is the Latin name of the European oak, which is the raw material for the Spanish sherry casks. Because the Glenrothes Robur Reserve matured most of its time in ex-sherry casks and therefore received most of its characteristics from European oak, it was named after the Quercus Robur.

The maturing of the whisky is an essential process to create a great and distinctive single malt. Thus, the Glenrothes Distillery is choosing only the best casks, which are produced in Jerez.

There they become seasoned with Oloroso sherry during a period of 18 months. After this the prepared oak meets the whisky and finally the magic begins.

The Glenrothes Distillery was established by James Stuart & Co in 1878 and produced the first whisky one year later in 1879. Today the company is part of the Edrington Group.
