Glanfarclas is one of the few distilleries that still is a family owned company. Since John Grant bought the business in 1865, each Grant generation did its best to keep the stills running and to produce fantastic Speyside whiskies.

The Glenfarclas 105 Cask Strength is one of those great spirits. It has a full, complex aroma with a lot of sherry upfront, sweet malt, oak wood, a little caramel and fresh fruits like apples and young pears.

On the palate the strong influence of sherry and European oak stays in the foreground while dark chocolate, nuts and slightly spicy notes are a little less present. Due to the high alcohol content the dram has a certain power but appears silky and oily as well.

The finish is long and surprisingly mild. It turns a bit dry and offers nuances of nuts, dark chocolate and even a hint of smoke.

The Glenfarclas 105 Cask Strength matured in ex-sherry casks, which are made of European oak. Because they were seasoned with fine sherry the whisky absorbed lots of the lush sherry flavours and received a nice dark colour, too.

It is bottled at cask strength what is indicated by the number 105 as well. This number says it is 105 proof, which is and old measurement of the alcohol strength and means it has 60 % of alcohol.

The production facilities of Glenfarclas exist since the 1830s. Robert Hay established them in 1836 and almost 30 years later the company was sold to John Grant.

The distillery is located in Ballindalloch and used the fresh water of the Ben Rinnes. It is also renowned for running the largest stills in the Speyside region.

Today, with John L. S. Grant the fifth generation is leading the Glenfarclas Distillery and with George S. Grant the sixth is getting prepared.
