Glen Moray Elgin Classic Peated Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky 40% 0,7l

Elgin has a bit more than 20.000 inhabitants and is the biggest town in the council area of Moray. It is a quaint little city that lies in the Speyside region and is home to the Glen Moray Distillery. There the fine Glen Moray Elgin Classic is distilled and matured.

It has a light golden hue and a bouquet that is composed of fresh lemongrass, slightly sweet malt, grassy notes and shortbread. On the palate the lemongrass is present again as well as a mellow malty caramel sweetness. In addition, blackcurrants bring an acerbic touch and nuances of oak a slight bitterness. Towards the end the dram is becoming fruitier so that the finish appears a bit sweeter but still shows the spicy components. Overall, the character can be described as fruity, floral and sweet with cereal flavours.

The Glen Moray Distillery was established in 1897 by the Glen Moray Glenlivet Distillery Company. It was erected on the estate where the West Brewery has been producing beer for about seven decades until then. Thus, a few facilities were already existent and the production of whisky could start quite fast. In 1958 the distillery was renovated and in the end of the 1970s the own malting floors were closed.

Today the malt is coming from Paul’s Maltings in Buckie and Simpson’s & Co in Berwick, which hold a close cooperation with the distillery. Another important ingredient is fresh and clear water. Therefor the Glen Moray Distillery is connected to the River Lossie.

The Glen Moray Elgin Classic is, as its name suggests, a classical Speyside single malt whisky from Elgin. It hast a light character and is easy to drink. Some might even use it for creating high end cocktails. Either way this fine Scotch is a very drinkable dram, which was attested during various spirit competitions.
