Cardhu 12 Years Speyside Single Malt Whisky 0,7 l

The Cardhu 12 Year Old is a fantastic single malt not just for beginners but also for experienced whisky enthusiasts. Especially in the southern region of Europe this elegant dram has a huge fan base.

This might be due to the fact that the Cardhu 12 Year Old is a remarkably well-balanced malt with a flavoursome bouquet of sweet and smooth notes.

The nose can detect resin, aromatic honey, oak, heather, fresh-cut pine wood, slight nuances of smoke, pears, apples and a light sweet maltiness. On the palate full-bodied and rich flavours of sweet vanilla, oak, malt and a hint of peat create an impressively round body.

Finally, the finish offers quite long lasting nuances of malt, slightly dry oak and a mild spiciness.

The Cardhu 12 Year Old is the staple of the Cardhu Distillery and convinces with its smooth character. Furthermore, its outer appearance is also an eye catcher. The slightly curved carafe and its large cork do attract attention even in extensive whisky collections.

It is said that Cardhu is the only distillery that was founded by a woman. It were Helen and John Cumming who started their company at the Cardo Farm close to Cardow in 1811, however, the business was not licensed until 1824.

When John passed away in 1846, son Lewis took over the distillery and developed it further together with his wife Elizabeth. For them it seemed to be clear that women are equally good leaders, which was a quite unconventional view back then.

But therefore it does not surprise that Elizabeth managed the whole Cardhu Distillery for more than two decades after Lewis’ death. In the end of the 19th century the company was acquired by John Walker & Sons, who aimed for an enlargement of the production facilities and a higher output.

Today the distillery is owned by Diageo. By the way, until 1981 the company’s name was not Cardhu but Cardow.
