The popular Tomintoul 12 years Oloroso Speyside Malt Whisky conveys whisky lovers with a sense of warmth, paired with sweet Sherry which is already seen on the nose.
The aroma of the crafted Tomintoul 12 years Oloroso Speyside Malt Whisky presents itself as different sweet and gentle and makes the interpretation of floral notes run free. Due to its twelve-year storage in oak barrels, these are perceived not only in taste, but they give the special touch the Tomintoul Oloroso. Used barrels have a typically porous surface on the insides and leave with this the taste of the previously stored spirits in the aroma. The Tomintoul distillery only uses oak barrels that were previously used for the storage of port wine, brandy or cognac.
Tomintoul whisky is produced from the most natural ingredients. Barley is laid in water until it sprouts. The malted barley is then ground into “grist”. The grist is mixed with water. A liquid called “wort” is then drained off. The liquid is fermented and the resulting liquid is called “wash”. The wash is heated in a copper pot still. The evaporated liquid is collected and is called “new make”. Only the middle run of the new make is used to mature in the oak casks. The liquid is matured for at least 12 years. About 2% of the liquid disappears from the cask during maturation and this is referred to as the “angels share”.
The endless finish of the mellow and smooth Tomintoul 12 years Oloroso Speyside Malt Whisky is soothing and calming and again replicates the taste of sweet sherry.
The village of Tomintoul is the highest village in the Scottish Highlands and was built in 1776 by the 4th Duke of Gordon. Due to its height, winter can last right into spring. For the production of the Tomintoul Oloroso Speyside whisky water from the Ballantruan spring is used which is renowned for exceptionally clear water. This characteristic is also reflected in the optics.
The Tomintoul de calm is located within the region of Speyside and is surrounded by at least another fifty more distilleries producing premium whiskies. The excellent natural resources led to the establishment of many businesses. The natural resources and the widespread know-how are decisive for this premium whisky from Scotland. The surrounding area is also well-known for its rare fauna and flora and many endangered species like the otter, mountain eagle and black grouse.
In summary, the award-winning Tomintoul Oloroso is a creamy malt Speyside whisky which is characterized on the one hand by strong Sherry notes, but also benefited from the proper nature of the Speyside on the other side. The gentle spirit is a whisky lover’s dream and is definitely too good to mix with other beverages.
