The rich history of the Venezuelan family business Santa Teresa goes back to the year 1796 and has since become a market leaders in the Rum market locally and internationally and their motto is “add magic to the moment”. In 1796 the Count of Tovar y Blanco was given land by the King of Spain and here he built the Santa Teresa Hacienda. About 100 years later the new owner of the property Gustav Vollmer Ribas began to produce Rum and the Santa Teresa Selecto Extra Anejo Rum was created in 1983. Santa Teresa is now controlled by 5th generation Vollmer family who still takes pride in their rich history and experience and also now grow coffee and oranges for the production of some of their other liqueurs.
For the production of the award-winning Santa Teresa Selecto Extra Anejo Rum, the company used excellent sugarcane grow in the region. This requires approximately 24 hours from the plantation to the processing facility and is subjected to strict quality controls. After the continuous fermentation and distillation process the Rum is stored to mature in American oak wooden barrels. Exclusively white oak barrels are used for storage of the Rum that bequeath the Rum its own special character and flavor. Santa Teresa Selecto Extra Anejo Rum is made of various Rums of between three and ten years.
Venezuelan law requires Rum to be aged for a minimum of 2 years. The refinement of Rum requires a lot of knowledge, experience and time, often up to 15 years - but it pays off. Santa Teresa for all its efforts has already received some prizes, in 2000 the company was awarded a Silver Award and in 2001 received a Bronze Award. The versatile Santa Teresa Selecto Extra Anejo Rum is the ideal sipping Rum, is delicious in tropical cocktails, favorite long drinks, and fresh fruit juice and can also be used for cooking.
