Ron Barcelo comes from the Dominican Republic in the tropical Caribbean. In 1930 a Spanish immigrant born in Mallorca Spain called Ron Barcelo launched his distillery which knew how to successfully integrate their excellent Rum range into the spirits market.

In the 1980s Ron Barcelo Rum was one of the most popular in the Dominican Republic. Over the decade the Ron Barcelo products became readily available in over 10 countries worldwide due to their successful export strategy. Today the Ron Barcelo range is available in over 50 countries. The climatic conditions in the Dominican Republic are ideal for a productive high-yield sugar cane production which is particularly important not only for sugar production but also for the production of good Rum.

After the sugar cane harvest the sugar is further processed in the distillery. There the molasses – the thick, sticky and brown by-product of sugar production - first passes through the fermentation process before it is then forwarded to the state-of-the-art distillation plant. Here the light of the heavy distillates are separated and later, if required by the composition of the Rum is blended in certain proportions to each other.

The subsequent maturation phase in American ex-bourbon oak barrels or new white oak barrels is over a period of five years. During this period the award-winning Ron Barcelo Gran Anejo 5 year old Rum develops its wide-ranging flavor as well as its brilliant copper amber color and the distinct character of soft to medium-heavy texture.
