Girolamo Luxardos wife Maria spent her time at home making and perfecting liqueur. Her liqueurs caught the attention of connoisseurs which motivated the family to found their own distillery. 

Essential oils are extracted by steam from the anise which makes the oils soluble in alcohol. 

The Luxardo Sambuca dei Cesari undergoes a gentle six month maturation period in Finnish wood vats. 

Due to the Second World War the family Luxardo was forced to emigrate which temporarily compromised the production. 

Fortunately Giorgio Luxardo decided to build a new distillery in the municipality of Torreglia, in Northern Italy, where until today Luxardo liqueurs are still produced after the secret family recipe ensuring quality and excellence. 

Luxardo Sambuca dei Cesari is considered a traditional anise based national drink.   

Currently the operation is already in its sixth generation and is still led exclusively by members of the family.
