Video: Highland Park Svein Island

From the Scottish islands, the Highland Park Svein Island whisky is known not only for its complexity and the diversity of its different facets. Rather it conveys a feeling of Northern European history, particularly the touring of the seas by the mighty Vikings as documented in the highly-acclaimed book called Orkneyinga Saga.

This whisky is named after Svein Asleifsson, who was a legendary Viking chieftain known for his great love for adventure and his exuberant temperament.  Sveins drinking horn that was presented to him at birth is the symbol of this sweet and spicy spirit.

The aroma of this Highland Park Svein Island single malt whisky is characterized by its light earthy smoke, fruity notes of ripe oranges and pineapple and sweet caramel, coupled with elegant vanilla beans.

A delicious taste of berries and soft smokiness also join the taste sensation and a light peppery note that appears is not only interesting but paints its special touch, especially on the long finish.

The golden and bright Highland Park Svein is not only a whisky for connoisseurs and lovers. Even beginners will be more than thrilled because it is not the typical taste of the sea close to the fore. On the contrary this whisky presents a more fruity, full-bodied sense of exotic fruit.

Whiskies and in particular single malts of the Highland Park Distillery, which is based in the on the most northern part of Scotland, namely the Orkney Islands, are of the highest quality and guaranteed a great gift for connoisseurs. The distillery was established in 1798 by a whisky loving priest named Magnus Eunson and is now owned by the Edrington Group which produces over 2.5 million liters of single malt whisky every year.

It is claimed that Insel whiskies do not exhibit the same standard as conventional whiskies from the Mainland, but the malts and above all the Highland Park Svein stand out clearly from its competitors such as Islay and Skye. The particular diversity led the distillery to international fame which can be easily be seen and tasted. The distillery boasts a traditional malting floor. Barley is steeped in mineral rich water from a local spring and is then placed on the malting floor to germinate. From there the peating process commences in the kilns. Maturation takes place mainly in ex American oak casks and some in ex European oak casks.

The Highland Park Svein belongs to the Warrior series which was presented to the market in 2013 in a crypt under the St Andrews Church in London. These special whiskies showcase the best from the Highland Park distillery and proudly represent strong and dangerous Viking - single malts with character and history. Other whiskies in the series are called Harald and Einar.
