Fresh and clear water from the Glen Grant Creek and the Caperdonich Well are the basis for fantastic single malts from the Glen Grant Distillery. One of them is the Glen Grant Majors Reserve.

This Speyside whisky has a bright golden hue and a juicy as well as smooth bouquet that encompasses aromas of fresh fruits, lemon, malted barley, toffee and apples. On the palate the fruity style comes through too. The flavour consists of lemon, raisins, malt, peach, vanilla and slightly herbal notes like sage.

The finish is becoming drier. It shows hints of tannins, mint, nuts and a small portion of vanilla. Overall this Glen Grant Majors Reserve has a fresh, fruity, creamy, smooth character and is the lightest of Glen Grant’s product range.

The Glen Grant Majors Reserve comes from the Speyside region, which has a very high density of distilleries. It is named after the River Spey, which runs from the Loch Spey through the Scottish Highlands and reaches the sea near the town Buckie.

The story of the Glen Grant Distillery began in 1840. The brother James and John Grant saw the perfect location for whisky production and applied for a licence. With the harbour of Garmouth not far, the clear water of the River Spey and enough supply of barley from surrounding crop land the conditions for running a successful distillery appeared great.

In 1872, after both Grant brothers have passed away, the next generation took over the business. The successor was James “The Major” Grant, who had been well-known for his ingenious, innovative and chummy character.

He led the company into a new age of production by for example making Glen Grant the first distillery with electricity or by using a new designed still that gave all Glen Grant whiskies a particular flavour. Today the distillery is owned by Campari but the history that was started by the Grant family goes on and on.
