In 1947, Ronald Morrison, a wine merchant in Edinburgh had an idea to create a liqueur that would warm up his clients as the winter was particularly cold that year. Morrison made use of ingredients that were easily available to him at port Leith. He mixed Scotch malt Whisky with honey, citrus fruit and spices and voila, a superb liqueur was born. The name Glayva basically translates from Gaelic as “very good” which was the actual words from the warehouseman who was asked to have the first taste of the sweet and smooth liqueur.
