The Ferdinand's Saar Dry Gin is produced in a family-run distillery by the Master Distiller Andreas Vallendar in the Saar region, in the border triangle of Germany, Luxembourg and France.
Together with Dorothee Zilliken, director of traditional VDP Weingut Forstmeister Geltz-Zilliken, Andreas Vallendars target was to create an area unique Gin that highlights the best that the Saar region has to offer.
In order to meet their quality requirements, Vallendar and Zilliken place great value on manual work and decided to forego normal industrial production. Furthermore, they decided to produce and market the unique Ferdinand Saar Dry Gin in small batches only.
In order for the Ferdinand's Saar Dry Gin to legally make reference to the Saarland region, only Botanicals and spices for the Ferdinand's Saar Dry Gin may be used that originate from their own vineyards. Among the 30 hand-picked Botanicals are for example spicy juniper berry, quince, flowery lavender, lemon scented thyme, sloe, rose hip, delicate angelica, blackthorn, hop blossom, rose, almond shell, coriander and teasing ginger.
Together with the home grown cereals and a repeatedly distilled alcohol base, the macerated Botanicals receive a well-deserved four-week rest period. A special feature of Ferdinand's Saar Dry Gin is that between 1% and 5% of the distillate is made from locally grown Riesling. After the expiry of the four-week rest period, the Ferdinand's Saar Dry Gin is brought to an alcohol content of 44% with local spring water and then is ready for hand-bottling and sale.
Visually the Ferdinand's Saar Dry Gin is a real eye-catcher. The black bottle of Ferdinand's Saar Dry Gin is encased in a stylish, printed with paisley pattern paper. To highlight the wine region of Saarland and the ingredient Riesling, the Ferdinand's Saar Dry Gin has natural cork closure sealed in beeswax.
The Ferdinand's Saar Dry Gin is ideal both the pure pleasure , on ice as well as for mixing a refreshing Gin and tonic. For the Gin and tonic, Fever Tree Tonic Water or Thomas Henry Tonic Water is recommended.
