Famous Grouse - The Black Grouse Whisky 1 l

The Black Grouse is the peaty brother of the Famous Grouse, which is one of the most popular blended whiskies of the world. The bouquet is rich and full, has a clear peat note and a soft smoky aroma.

It shows a rum-like sweetness and hints of musk. The taste is full and well-balanced. Next to the smoky peat and the oak, dried fruits and aromatic spices are to be found. A sweet note of caramel makes this whisky complete. The finish is quit long and has still an aromatic note of smoke and peat.

The story of the Famous Grouse can be traced back to the 19th century, when Matthew Gloag produced a blended Scotch that was named The Grouse Brand.

After a few years, this whisky quickly became renowned and was therefore renamed as The Famous Grouse. Today the company is owned by the Edrington Group and has its home at the Glenturret Distillery in Crieff in the Scottish Highlands.

To create the sublime smokiness of the Black Grouse, the Famous Grouse is combined with hand selected peated malts. The best grain whiskies and the finest single malts are blended to coin the peaty character of the Black Grouse. Some famous Scottish premium single malts from renowned distilleries like

The Macallan or the Highland Park give a distinctive shape to the blend. Especially the maturation in ex-bourbon cask, which are made of American oak, and ex-sherry cask, which consist of European oak, is fundamental for the development of a bright golden colour and a delectable aroma.

Altogether the Black Grouse is produced by experienced experts who make sure that this blended Scotch retains a high quality standard.

As a sign for its premium quality Jim Murray awarded the Black Grouse 94 points in the Whisky Bible. Furthermore, it won the following medals:
