Dalmore 12 Years Old Highland Single Malt Whisky 1 l

The in 1839 established Dalmore Distillery is to be found in Alness, a village in the northern part of the Highlands. The distillery is offering a principal collection of six different single malt whiskies and the Dalmore 12 Year Old is one of them.

It has a beautiful dark shine and a pleasantly balanced bouquet. Sweet aromas of the sherry, notes of citrus and rich oranges create an alluring sensation. A counterpart is built by malt, a slight spiciness and hints of chocolate.

On the palate the thick and oily dram reveals a delectable fruitiness from the sherry, which includes dark fruits like raspberry, blackberry and strawberry. Furthermore, the wood of the European oak provided for a spicy touch.

The finish is of medium length and fades out with hints of oranges, chocolate and roasted coffee.

The Dalmore 12 Year Old has a mellow character that is full of sherry and shows a citrus note, which is quite common for whiskies from this Highland area.

In order to create such sublime single malt the Dalmore Distillery breaks with the conventions. In contrast to other companies, it runs different stills of various sizes. Therefore, by mixing the different new makes, the Master Distiller has other possibilities to create a special Scotch. Subsequently, the maturation follows.

The Dalmore 12 Year Old aged in two kinds of casks. Firstly it was filled in ex-bourbon casks, which are made of American white oak. After nine years, half of the spirit was extracted from the cask and decanted into Gonzalez Byass Matusalem Oloroso barrels, which consist of European oak and are already 30 years old.

Finally, after further three years, the whisky is married and bottled.

The wood of the well-selected casks and the way of maturation lead to the rich and full character.
