Since 1987 the Cragganmore 12 Year Old is part of the Classic Malts of Scotland or, as it is called since 2005, the Classic Malts Selection. And today, after decades of production, the Cragganmore 12 Year Old is as loved as it has ever been because it is a very well-balanced single malt Scotch with a typical Speyside whisky character.

On the nose it shows a pleasantly full, balanced bouquet of floral notes, herbs, heather, honey, sweet caramel, malt and hints of almonds. The body is similarly full and rich. Flavours of malt, honey, a slight trace of smoke, sandalwood and a mix made of almonds, walnuts and chestnuts are balanced just perfectly. The finish has a good length and creates a comforting, warm sensation.

It is slightly spicy, has a few nuances of smoke and a gentle sweetness. Overall, this dram is an incredibly well-balanced single malt with a smooth and soft character. From the aroma to the finish it presents a constant perfection, which comes without any sharp edges.

The Cragganmore 12 Year Old is the staple of the Cragganmore Distillery. As part of the Classic Malts Selection, it is representing the characteristics of a Speyside whisky. Though some might say it is not just a typical but the best Speyside single malt.

The Cragganmore Distillery is located close to the little village Ballindalloch on the other side of the River Avion and close to the River Spey. There it was founded by John Smith in 1869 and received its name from a close by mountain. Smith had good reasons to choose this spot for his business.

On one hand he had a good supply of fresh water and on the other hand the railway was in reach so that it was easier to transport raw materials to the distillery and bring the produced whisky to a wider market.
