The home of Courvoisier has a solid and long history dating all the way back to 1835. The master blender Patrice Pinet uses the same traditional method that was started 200 years ago. Courvoisier is proud of its noble XO Cognac and has even supplied the imperial court of Napoleon with its superior beverage as it was Napoleons preferred Cognac. This is how Courvoisier got the label “The Cognac of Napoleon”. Meanwhile Courvoisier is one of the best Cognacs in the world. The high quality has already brought the Cognac the sought-after prestigious award "Prestige de la France" - which is the highest award of excellence in France and is the only Cognac house that has ever received this auspicious award.
The preparation is carried out through the use of Ugni Blanc grapes. These grapes are used exclusively from the four finest Crus of Cognac Grande Champagne regions, Petite Champagne, Fins Bois and Borde rice. Before the storing phase the expectant Cognac undergoes a double distillation process. Subsequent development of the well-matured Courvoisier XO Cognac takes place in French fine-grained oak barrels, which contribute significantly to the formation of character and taste of the delicious brandy.
The maturation is assisted by the humid warehouses which are situated next to the Charente River. The minimum maturation period of the perfectly-balanced Courvoisier XO Cognac is 10 years, the average age is generally 20 years in order to distinguish itself from other XO products. The Courvoisier XO Cognac also won an award in 1994 in the Wine & Spirits Competition for best Cognac in the world.
A special feature of the company is that visitors can participate in a distillery educational which is held on the banks of the Charente river. There the interested parties are given a detailed insight into the company's history and also the opportunity to acquire the exclusive Courvoisier XO Cognac.
