Carlos I Imperial Solera Gran Reserva 15 year old XO, a Brandy of the highest quality with the aroma of sherry, paired with almonds and vanilla beans
When you think of what Spain has to offer you most likely think of spicy paella, short vacations, beautiful beaches and many hours of sunshine.
Take a chance and try the traditional Carlos I Imperial Solera Gran Reserva 15 year old Brandy and you will feel like you have been transported directly to this great country.
Already as the delightful Brandy arrives in the glass a high level of quality can be seen. Sparkling, it shines through the glass and dances between intense mahogany and amber. This first-class exterior prepares you for pleasure and proves the high quality of the Carlos I Imperial Solera Brandy.
The mouth is elegant and smooth, and is satisfied by the sweet and intense taste of sherry. Kibbled almonds join and compete with the vanilla pods, slightly bitter chocolate and some caramel with the complexity embedded in a touch of wood fibers. Creamy toffee also shows up and gives the symphony of taste even greater elegance.
The finish is how a premium Brandy should be, endlessly long and replicates the taste experience again. The soothing finish is totally full bodied and whets the appetite for more.
The irresistible Carlos I Imperial is a shimmering gem and is the big brother of Carlos I of Spain. Its 15-year maturity in the Solera method with the help of the best grape varieties which the region of Jerez has to offer provide extremely high quality. The storage of these vines takes place in secret in the Bodegas Domecq in American oak barrels which previously served the ripening of Olorose and Amontillado sherry. This is how the Carlos I Imperial receives its special sweetness and intense aroma of delicious sherry. The House of Pedro Domecq was founded by a Frenchman in 1730 and by 1874 it was able to export its products around the world. Descendants of the Domecq family still run the company.
The production of Brandy basically happened by accident. The story goes that an order of 500 barrels of high-quality wine was cancelled as the client had money troubles. Mr Domecq left the barrels of wine in his cellar until he could find another use for the beverage. 5 years later Domecq opened a barrel and on tasting the contents discovered that the wine had become an exquisite Brandy, golden in color and with the most incredible aroma. The Brandy became the first Brandy to be produced in Spain.
The pot-stilled Carlos I Imperial Solera Gran Reserva 15 year old XO has been recognized at International competitions, namely: 2014 Silver medal at the International Wine and Spirit Competition and 2013 Silver medal at the International Wine and Spirit Competition.
