The Bushmills Black Bush is a premium blended Irish Whiskey that is influenced by Spanish Oloroso sherry

The Bushmills Black Bush is a blended whiskey of a different kind. When having a look at the colour, it is becoming already clear that this is not a normal blend. It has a beautiful dark hue, which is the result of the high content of special matured malt whiskey.

The malt that is used matured in Oloroso sherry casks. Therefore, it gained a darker colour and brings delectable flavours to the blend. On the nose the Bushmills Black Bush offers fantastic notes of vanilla, malted barley, grapes and a little lemon. On the palate this full-bodied dram is balanced between very fruity, sweet sherry flavours and slightly bitter and spicy aromas from the oak. Its round finish has a medium length and consists of barley sweetness and biscuits.

The Bushmills Distillery created this fantastic premium blend of 20 % grain whiskey and 80 % malt whiskey. The malt whisky had the chance to mature not just in American ex bourbon barrels but also in Spanish Oloroso sherry casks.

Those casks are made of European oak and were used around Jerez de la Frontera for the production of sherry. Thus, they give a dark colour and very intense flavours to the whiskey. The malt whiskey matured up to seven years. The grain whiskey was triple distilled, what made it much smoother. By distilling it three times, it is possible to get rid of more fusel oils and to produce a whiskey with less undesired flavours.

Producing whiskey has a long history in Ireland. The date 1608, which is printed on each bottle, marks the year when King James I. granted a licence to produce alcohol to Sir Thomas Phillipps.

The Bushmills Distillery was officially registered in 1784 but prior to this it probably has been running for several decades already. The distillery has its home in Bushmills, a small village in Northern Ireland.
