The dark amber Bowmore Black Rock Islay Whisky is one of the latest developments at the Bowmore distillery and was released in 2014. In addition to the White Sands and the Gold Reef, the Bowmore Black Rock Islay Whisky is a more intense and strong single malt without losing its fine sense of harmony.
The rich Bowmore Black Rock Islay Whisky received its name from the dark, almost black rock jutting out from the coast of Loch Indaal. Here the traditional Bowmore distillery which dates all the way back to 1779 shows their strong ties with the region, the island of Islay, and of course Scotland.
By opening a bottle of the beautifully presented Bowmore Black Rock Islay Whisky a tantalizing fragrance full of toffee and coffee in a bitter-sweet syrup escapes. Here the flair of the famous Bowmore distillery fully comes to the fore. The nose is pleasantly spoiled by the smell of strong Sherry and gets the same pleasure on the tasting. Local water from the near-by Laggan River, the kiln that is heated with home-grown Islay peat, traditional turning of local barley by hand with a malt shovel and the fresh sea air from the Western coastline gives the Bowmore Black Rock Islay Whisky its very special character and its most recognized Whisky flavor in the world.
A delectable flavor defined by coffee and the overtones of toffee unfolds in the mouth and does not disappoint. An undertone of sultanas and fresh orange fruit provides the special touch. The Bowmore Black Rock Islay Whisky carries the taste of Sherry which however is not found in the Gold Reef. The Gold Reef was stored in Bourbon barrels and the Black Rock however is stored in first fill ex-Spanish Sherry casks. The Sherry flavor in spite of the intense fragrance remains non-intrusive in the opinion of well-seasoned connoisseurs. The Sherry ideally fits the other flavor components and gives them more intensity.
The finish of the premium Bowmore Black Rock Islay Whisky is long-lasting and beneficial. The seductive aroma of Sherry comes to the fore again and concludes with the taste of fresh fruit, sea spray and toasty oak. The Bowmore Black Rock Islay Whisky has no age statement and caters for the higher price market and will make an appreciated gift and a splendid addition to a Whisky collection.
In summary, the intense but well-balanced Bowmore Black Rock is an Islay Whisky with a single malt quality. Here once again the Bowman distillery managed to keep up with the flair for current trends, including regional circumstances and the figures of the right taste ratio of different ingredients.
